Read On In. Sex Offenders Sex offenders have always lived in our communities. However, it was not until passage of the Community Protection Act ofmandating sex offender registration that law enforcement agencies routinely tracked where sex offenders were living.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office is responsible registering, tracking and releasing information on registered sex offenders in Kitsap County in accordance with the Community Protection Act and related statutes. The Bremerton Police Department assists the Sheriff's Office with notification and tracking of sex offenders within the City of Bremerton.

Intent of Information Information provided on sex offenders is not intended to create panic or alarm. The intent is to inform the citizens and to enhance community safety and awareness.

These individuals have served the sentence imposed by the courts and in compliance with the Community Protection Act, have advised the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office that they will be living in Kitsap County. Please note, these individuals are not wanted by the police at this time. The Bremerton Police Department has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may or may not live. Unless court ordered restrictions exist, the offender is constitutionally free to live wherever they choose. Citizen Abuse of Information Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated.

In fact, such abuse could ultimately result in the end of law enforcement's ability to notify the public. We believe the only person who wins if the community notifications end, is the sex offender.

Sex offenders gain their power through secrecy. Level 1 offenders have a low likelihood of re-offending and many are 1st time offenders. Level 2 offenders have a moderate likelihood of re-offending.

Level 3 offenders are highly likely to re-offend, they may be predatory in nature and pose a potential threat to our communities. Only a small percentage of offenders are classified as Level 3. What is Released?
