The cities of Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Williamsburg are ing together to implement weekly testing of all municipal employees unless they are fully vaccinated.
We believe this additional precaution will improve our ability to meet three key goals: keeping our employees and their families healthier; maintaining our ability to serve our residents, especially with critical public safety services; and reducing community spread of COVID We have set as a goal to implement this policy by Oct. Members of the CARE team will provide initial support for those experiencing mental or behavioral health issues within Newport News. The CARE program will help keep people with mental illness out of jail and get them on the path to support and recovery. The partnership model we have created is truly collaborative and person-centered, laying the foundation for sustainable change in the lives of those who are served.
Crisis Intervention Teams like the CARE program are advanced, community-based approaches to improve the outcomes of these encounters. The CARE team will respond in a marked vehicle and will assess the individual and provide necessary interventions and support.
A police officer will also respond to ensure the safety of those involved, but will not serve as lead. The CARE program will strengthen our community and help people access the medical treatment they need, instead of placing them in the criminal justice system. Fireworks to return in In the spirit of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of FUN inthe City of Newport News is encouraging residents to commemorate the founding of our Nation by celebrating the great outdoors. In preparation for the celebration, the City is hosting a weeklong resident appreciation event from June 26th — July 3rd. The two- or three-week training courses provide trainees the skills they need to begin full-time trades careers with Newport News Shipbuilding upon graduation. This no-cost, fast training can lead to high wages and great benefits for residents. Funding is transforming the Marshall-Ridley area in the Southeast Community, creating new housing options, community services, recreational opportunities and parks.
Breeden Construction is constructing the project. The completed facility will include 75 apartments one, two and three bedroom and six townhomes. The remaining apartments will be rented at market rate. Located at Warwick Boulevard, Four Oaks helps people transition out of homelessness into employment, stable housing and independence. The current club President, Sharon Martin, was inspired by the transformational work that takes place at Four Oaks.
After visiting the site and learning that, while Four Oaks includes an on-site barber shop staffed by volunteers, there is not a beauty salon for female clients, she came up with a plan to create one. Martin has held a Cosmetology for 37 years, so she understands how having nicely styled hair le to increased pride and confidence, both of which the women who are served at Four Oaks need during job interviews. Women will be able to come to Four Oaks to get their hair cut and styled, so they can leave renewed and more self-assured, ready to take the next step in life. YouthBuild helps young people ages gain work-based education that le to industry-recognized credentials, employment placement or apprenticeships. YouthBuild participants will receive on-the-job training by renovating a room at Four Oaks and creating the salon. The Heart of Giving will provide equipment and supplies needed for the salon. The goal is to open the beauty salon in early September.
